OVERVIEW
MALai is an AI-powered platform designed to help job seekers craft tailored, professional resumes and cover letters with ease. The goal was to create a clean, intuitive user experience that guided users effortlessly from input to export. I led the full UI/UX design in Figma, focusing on usability, hierarchy, and user confidence.

UI/UX Design
PROBLEM
Job seekers often face two major challenges: they struggle to personalize resumes for each application, and they often lack the design skills to create polished layouts. Existing tools were either too complex, too generic, or buried the AI value behind cluttered interfaces.
The challenge was to design a user flow that simplified data input, leveraged AI for customization, and delivered a professional output all within a streamlined, frictionless UI that didn't intimidate users who were already stressed about their job search.
The challenge: design an experience that makes a nervous first-time applicant and a seasoned professional both feel confident hitting "Export" under five minutes.
SOLUTION
I crafted a minimalist, step-by-step UI/UX in Figma that breaks the resume creation process into intuitive stages. Users move through personal details, work experience, education, and skills, each step surfacing AI-powered suggestions that help them phrase achievements and highlight key strengths without second-guessing themselves.
PROCESS
User Research & Persona Mapping
Identified two key personas: early-career job seekers who felt overwhelmed by blank-page syndrome, and experienced professionals seeking a confident career shift. Each persona had distinct needs around tone, structure, and AI guidance, both were accounted for in the design decisions.
Information Architecture
Mapped a logical, low-friction flow for each step, ensuring users could move quickly from personal data input to final export without dead ends or confusing navigation. The architecture was tested against both personas before wireframing began.
Wireframes & High-Fidelity Design
Built low-fidelity wireframes to validate the user flow and identify friction points early. Iterated into a full high-fidelity design system in Figma, defining typography, spacing tokens, colour variables, and micro-interactions for a polished, consistent experience across all screens.
Interactive Prototyping
Built a clickable Figma prototype to demonstrate the complete user journey: from entering personal details to previewing and exporting the final resume. Feedback loops were designed into each step so users always felt guided and in control.
OUTCOME
The resulting design was a streamlined, modern user experience that reduced the time users spent on resume creation by over 50%. Users reported feeling guided and confident throughout the process, and the AI suggestions provided genuine value, helping them better articulate their skills and achievements.
The final Figma design served as a comprehensive blueprint for developer handoff, with annotated components, defined states, and a documented design system ensuring a smooth and accurate build.
Users completed their first resume in under 5 minutes and reported feeling more confident about their applications than with any tool they'd used before.
